Our 2015 post mortem piece generated some good comments, but one in particular from DJ Skinny stuck in my mind, if only to prompt me to write this piece that I’ve been meaning to write for the last 12 months — why are you still using the now discontinued Serato Scratch Live when Serato DJ is out there? Hi, I DJ with another person on my set, and we take it in turns on the decks throughout the set. Obviously this means that we can only use one laptop throughout the set which means we only have access to one of our librarys of music. Is it possible to connect an ipod to scratch live so music from the ipod can be found in a crate?

Serato DJ Pro has recently integrated streaming services Tidal and Soundcloud into the popular DJ software. This allows users to access the streaming sites massive library during a performance and essentially gives you access to hundreds of thousands of songs. Although Soundcloud has been around for sometime, Tidal is fairly new and primarily where you will find more mainstream music. Tidal does have a solid collection of music, but it’s library is small compared to rival streaming services, Apple Music and Spotify. Our friends over at Digital DJ Tips have provided a workaround that allows you to access your Apple Music and Spotify playlist for performance in Serato DJ Pro.
You will need a Tidal subscription $9.99USD, the latest version of Serato DJ Pro and you will need to sign up for Soundiiz ($3USD/month) which acts as the middle man, transferring your playlists from Spotify and Apple Music to Tidal. Once they are in Tidal you can access them in Serato and use them during your set. With a strong internet connection you now have access to music on any steaming platform from Apple Music and Spotify to Youtube Music and more! Learn how in the video below! Will you put your music library completely in the hands of streaming services? Let us know in the comments!
